The Church of God in Otsego formally dates its birth to 1921 when a small group of concerned people started Sunday School and preaching services in the community. The seeds had been planted many years earlier when the pioneer preacher D.S. Warner preached the truths of holiness & unity in Otsego prior to 1895. Some kept that concern alive until God gave them this new opportunity. As the church began to grow the people soon realized their dream of a church building for worship. The building was on Kalamazoo Street - the site of the present complex. As the church grew much work was done to update and expand the building.
Finally in 1961 a beautiful new sanctuary was added to the church. This was built during the minsitry of long time pastor, B.C. VanEvery. In 1975 Pastor Gerald Nevitt led the congregation in building the much used education & fellowship hall unit. During the ministry of Pastor Timothy Foreman the church developed a Masterplan for growth, acquired seven adjacent properties, developed off street parking and completed the first phase of the Masterplan.
Pastor Stephen Burrow came to lead the church in February of 2008. Pastor Burrow and the leaders of our congregation today are leading the church in building on her great heritage.
The building though is only the center for coming together. The real church is people - God's people - on mission through ministry. Our church has a missionary heart to reach our community & world. The pastor & people who have served this congregation in the past & still today have ministered faithfully with prayer & love.
Some people plant. . .
Some people water. . .
God gives the growth!
